This morning our President, Heather Armstrong, hosted a "welcome back" morning tea to start the New Year off in fine style. Members were invited to talk about their gardens and discuss any issues they had regarding what they were growing in this hot weather. Questions were asked and answered with everyone joining in with some helpful hints. It was a very pleasant meeting enjoyed by all.

                                               Annual General Meeting

This morning we had our Annual General Meeting followed by our wonderful Break-Up Party to mark the end of another fabulous year. The A.G.M. was ably conducted by our President, Heather Armstrong, with assistance from Bob Yeomans, and all of our office bearers were happy to offer their services for next year. Katherin Grelis has bowed out of the committee for 2019 due to her many other commitments and we gratefully thank her for all the terrific work she has done for us. We are very happy to welcome one of our members, Don Watts, onto our committee for next year and greatly look forward to his participation. Thank you for offering your services Don - it is very much appreciated.

                                                                                              Break-Up Party

To mark the end of 2018 we again had a splendid time at our yearly break-up party where we feasted on a large array of goodies supplied by all of the members. Thanks to everyone who came along and brought something to share. Our wonderful President, Heather Armstrong, presided over an enjoyable meeting which included a digital display of the member's beautiful exhibits during the year, a super sized raffle, and a sumptuous morning tea. There was lots of chatter and laughter and a good time was had by all.


                       We wish members a safe and happy holidays and look forward to seeing
          everyone back next year for our first meeting at 10am on Tuesday 15th January.

One of our members, Lyn Sutton, delighted us this month with a wonderful demonstration of Floral Art. Lyn, a retired florist, had a florist shop in Mont Albert for over twenty-six years. During this presentation she created six very different exhibits, starting off with a demonstration of how to make a stunning bouquet. Then she put together a beautiful Christmas wreath, followed by four further wonderful creations. The members were captivated by Lyn's skill and artistry. There was also a fun quiz with some lovely prizes that Lyn very kindly donated. Thank you so much Lyn for sharing your time and talent with us. You have inspired many and it was greatly appreciated!

Our meeting this month was awash with colour as Helen Wagstaff gave us a wonderful talk on Orchids. Helen brought along many beautiful specimens for the members to admire, as well as being able to purchase at extremely reasonable prices. Helen shared knowledge about the history of the Orchid and gave us a very in-depth talk using a digital display of glorious photos. She told us all about this prolific and diverse plant, including where and when to grow them, potting mixes and information about pests and diseases. We thank you Helen for a fabulous presentation!

                                      Presenter - Adrian Van Kampen

The members were treated to a burst of colour this month when Adrian Van Kampen came to talk to us about Hippeastrums. Adrian's presentation included a digital slide show and as always, Adrian was very interesting and informative as he explained how to store, propogate, plant and grow bulbs. He answered many questions from the members and also brought along a large variety of bulbs and plants for the members to purchase - which they did with much enthusiasm. It was a wonderful meeting, enjoyed by all. Many thanks Adrian!

Today we welcomed Brian Dickenson who delighted us with a fantastic presentation on everything Bonsai. Brian has been growing Bonsai plants for forty years and his experience was very evident in the demonstration he gave us and his wide knowledge on the subject as he answered questions from the members. Brian also brought along many Bonsai plants for sale. The beautiful miniature trees were a huge hit with the members as they are very useful for smaller gardens and easier to maintain. Thank you very much Brian for filling in at short notice. It is greatly appreciated and was very enjoyable.

This morning our presentation was given by James Wall from Gardenworld. James spoke to us about Dwarf Fruit Trees and also brought along various types for sale to our members at very reasonable prices.  His talk was very informative with instructions on how to grow, prune and fertilise these little beauties. He also gave us some tips and tricks about lawn weeds and how to combat them. James also told us about the two new ponds that have recently been constructed at Gardenworld, one of them a beautiful Infinity Pond and the other containing Waterfalls - so make sure you check them out the next time you head down to Gardenworld. Thank you very much for your time today James!

This month we were treated to a fascinating talk by Greg Caughey, a registered bee keeper who began bee keeping about three years ago. He gave us a wonderful digital display of his own beehive as well as bringing along an empty bee box he uses for the collection of swarms. Greg explained the different types of bees and their duties within the hive and spoke to us about the various types of honey bees in Australia. There was also home made honey for purchase. Thank you very much Greg for a wonderful presentation. It was extremely well received and appreciated by the members.

A big thank you this month goes to Beth Williams for a particularly helpful talk on rose pruning. Beth brought along her "kit bag" of tools to show us, and gave us invaluable advice and tips for successfully pruning our roses - a must for everyone's garden. She gave each member a very useful handout of instructions and answered our member's many questions. Beth taught us the do's and dont's and clarified some pruning misconceptions. Thank you very much Beth for your time and expertise!

Today members were treated to a very interesting and informative talk by Andrew Briginshaw, the Victorian manager of Richgro, which is a family owned Australian business established in 1916 and based in Perth. Andrew has been in the gardening industry for over 26 years and he is passionate about gardening and garden design. He introduced us to a large variety of top quality garden products, all of which are available at Bunnings stores. Andrew was very generous with his time and he also had a wonderful "show bag" of some Richgro products which he handed out to each and every member! On top of this he also ran a raffle in which every member won a prize! - very generous indeed. The members were thrilled. Thank you very much Andrew for keeping us up to date on all the excellent Richgro products on the market.
