August Meeting

Tuesday 16th August 2016

Topic - Gladioli

Presenter - Adrian Van Kemp

This month a warm welcome was extended to Adrian Van Kemp who came along to speak to us about Gladioli. He informed us that it belongs to the Iris family, and the most popular ones grown here are derived primarily from South Africa. They grow and flower in 90-120 days and are easy to grow in the garden or in pots. They need good drainage and full sun - at least four or five hours sunlight a day. Adrian gave us extensive detailed information as well as a wonderful digital display. He also brought along a fabulous selection of Gladioli corms for sale to the members. Thank you Adrian for a great presentation.

The Betty Knox Award (Best Exhibit)

The award for best exhibit this month was won by Ron Lewis, this time for his beautiful Camellia Reticulata "Sir Clifford Parker." This display of three large deep pink flowers could not be faulted by the judges. Well done Ron!

Popular Vote Award

Ron has done it again with a clean sweep of both awards this month. He has won the most popular award for his impressive Scadoxus Puniceus. This plant truly amazed the members and was a worthy winner - Congratulations Ron!
