Topic - Singapore Gardens

Members were treated to a very informative and most inspiring data photographic presentation. On Paul's recent trip to Singapore many days were spent taking photos of this mind boggling horticultural masterpiece. Members were spellbound by the most wonderful photos of flowers, trees, structures and the size of the complex. It took Paul three days to visit all the areas. Costing billions of dollars and years in the making, it's a great show piece for tourists. The presentation was very well narrated.

The Betty Knox Award (Best Exhibit)

A most outstanding exhibit of old fashion freesias and primulas, 50 plus stems filled the room with a perfume you noticed when you entered the hall. Aileen had mixed the flower colours. Each stem was picked at exactly the right time, by having each stem with flowers in full blooms and advancing buds. A very well staged exhibit that won the Best Exhibit and the Members' Popular Vote. Freesias are easy to grow and if left alone multiply into a very large area that produces flowers for weeks. Being a bulb, they are best grown in the garden, but will grow and flower in pots.

Popular Vote Award

Aileen's master vase of Freesias and Primulas was admired by all the members. Well done Aileen by taking out two awards with one exhibit.

Another exhibit of great appeal was Allison's display of freshly grown vegetables, which included a cauliflower, carrots, leeks, capsicum and more.

The Hyacinth Challenge

Members had fun competing in the Hyacinth Challenge, an attempt to grow the best Hyacinth in water. Many members had a go, some had more success than others. Beth was the winner with a beautiful specimen. Second place went to Aileen and third place was won by Beryl.
