February Meeting
Tuesday 18th February 2020
Topic - Bonsai
Presenters - Zyggy & JoAnn Reinoga & Bruce Argaet
Waverley Bonsai Group
This morning the members were treated to a wonderful talk and demonstration by three members of the Waverley Bonsai Group. JoAnn gave us an informative history of Bonsai, and how it actually had it's roots in China rather than Japan. Bruce explained the differences between the Chinese and Japanese styles of Bonsai, and Zyggy gave us a demonstration of shaping. They answered the many questions from the members and they also brought along a large display of various types and styles of Bonsai. Thank you very much JoAnn, Zyggy and Bruce for a very interesting and enjoyable presentation.
Photographic & Video Presentation
One of our newer members, Ron Wilson, treated members to a peek at his very impressive garden by way of a video and many wonderful photos. Ron's magnificent garden is very large and beautiful, containing a stunning array of plants and flowers including roses, lavender, various fruit trees and shrubs as well as a vegie garden and more! It is a truly amazing garden of which Ron can be justifiably proud. The members were in awe and enjoyed the presentation greatly. Thank you Ron for sharing your incredible garden with us!
People's Choice Award
Winner - Ron Lewis
Exhibit - Tuberous Begonia
Congratulations Ron!
One of our long time members, Rebecca Thompson, has very kindly allowed us to share a lovely poem written by her late husband, Walter Thompson, who was also a long time member of the club. Thank you Rebecca.
A Poem by Walter Thompson
When you feel so lonely,
And there is nowhere else to go,
Don't feel downhearted
For it really isn't so
Why not learn about our floral art
And what vegetables to grow.
You never will feel so lonely
With friends you get to know
There are flowers on the benches
And flowers on the floor.
You even get three raffle tickets
When you come inside the door.
So don't go to the bingo
Or the pokies at the pub
Just come along to the Whitehorse room
And join the Garden club.
Next month we will be talking Insects with Ian Moodie, so please come along and join us at 10am on Tuesday 19th March.
