July Meeting

Tuesday 19th July 2016

Topic - Fertiliser and Potting Mixes

Presenter - Luke Williams

(Scotts Garden Products)

This month our speaker was Luke Williams from Scotts Garden Products, the biggest garden company in the world. It is a U.S. company with its head office based in Ohio. They use advanced technology in their many laboratories and their products are developed either in Ohio or here in Australia, in Sydney. Besides their own named brand, they also make other well known brands such as Osmocote and Defender. Luke told us about the innovative new products they have produced, including the world's first liquid slow release fertiliser, and the amazing new Easy Sprayer Ergo Bottle. They also have a "Pure Organic" range including potting mix, fertiliser and lawn care. Scotts products can be found at Bunnings as well as other outlets. Luke gave us many wonderful ideas on how to get the best out of our gardens and he happily answered our members questions. He also handed out "goody bags" containing free products for each member! Thank you Luke for a great presentation.

The Betty Knox Award (Best Exhibit)

There was a huge array of fabulous exhibits this month and the judges had to work overtime trying to come to a decision, but they settled on the entry from Bob Yeomans. It was a beautiful specimen of a Cane Begonia called Kermo Queen. Congratulations Bob - well deserved!

Popular Vote Award

The members also had a tough job this month trying to choose a winner from a veritable sea of beauty. They decided that the glorious trio of pink and white "Volunteer" Camelias exhibited by Katherin Grelis was the one. Well done Katherin - Congratulations!
