June Meeting

Tuesday 16th June

Topic - Terrariums

Presenter - Norm Garrety

The topic of the day was Terrariums and our speaker, Norm Garrety, gave us a wonderfully insightful talk. Norm's primary interest is in growing Begonias which grow well in terrariums, but he also gave us ideas for many other plants as well. For best results you should use plants which need a high humidity environment, therefore terrariums are ideal for growing African Violets, Cacti, small Ferns and Succulents. Plants require light but no direct sunlight as it will "cook" the plants so you must provide the terrarium with reasonable shade. Norm spoke to us about how to select the right container size, where to source the containers and how to decorate the terrariums using things such as pebbles and sea shells. The members were left very enthused about creating their own terrariums. Thank you Norm for a very informative and enjoyable talk on a very attractive topic.

The Betty Knox Award (Best Exhibit)

This month's winner was Meng Yeap for a splendid specimen of the "Bob Hope" Camellia. The judges were suitably impressed with it's large size and beautiful colour - Congratulations Meng - well done!
