March Meeting

Tuesday 17th March 2015

Topic - General Gardening Tips

Presenter - Earl Pike

The members were treated to a wonderfully informative and entertaining talk this month by Earl Pike. Earl has worn many gardening "hats" over the years including working for the Council and also as Head of the Horticultural College at Holmesglen Tafe (now retired). Earl told us some very funny stories and anecdotes of his time in horticultural retail. He gave us very practical information on plant root systems and instruction on fertilizing and composting as well as many other useful gardening tips. Earl also answered our member's many questions on all facets of gardening. Thank you Earl for a very enjoyable morning talk.

The Betty Knox Award (Best Exhibit)

There was a stunning array of beauty on the Show Bench this month and the Judges had their work cut out for them! The award for best exhibit was won by Vicki Zalac with a wonderful potted Stapelia. It is a cactus with large deep purple "furry" flowers which makes for a strikingly dramatic effect. Vicki is a new member and we congratulate her on her splendid effort.

Popular Vote Award

Vicki also took out the Popular Vote Award with her magnificent Stapelia. The members were very taken by it's unusual beauty - Congratulations on winning both awards this month Vicki - well done!
