October Meeting 2014

21st October 2014

Topic - Water-wise Gardening

Presenter - Gary Andrews

(Proprietor of Smart Water Shop)

Today members were treated to a wonderfully informative and very timely presentation on water-wise gardening by Gary Andrews, the proprietor of Smart Water Shop. With summer fast approaching, the tips and ideas Gary gave us will no doubt be very beneficial. He told us of the Smart Water Strategy which, among other things, consists of using water saving devices such as trigger hoses, tap timers and slow flow rate shower heads. Gary also spoke about installing drip irrigation systems and rainwater tanks, as well as the merits of planting drought tolerant lawns and methods of recycling grey water. Members are sure to implement some of the many water saving strategies that Gary gave us. Thank you Gary for giving us your time and expertise today. It is greatly appreciated.

The Betty Knox Award (Best Exhibit)

This month the award for the best exhibit went to Ron Lewis for staging a magnificent display of Pelargonium, also commonly known as Geraniums. The various colours ranged from a pale pink through to a very deep red and everything in between. It was truly striking and was justly rewarded by the judges. Congratulations Ron - very well deserved!

Popular Vote Award

Our very popular vote for October went to Brian Hadley for his beautifully staged vase of Just Joey Roses. With their perfectly formed large, pale orange petals they delighted the members and made for a stunning display. Well done Brian!
