September Meeting

Tuesday 20th September 2016

Topic - Bromeliad

Presenter - Bryan Paten

Today we had a superb demonstration and digital presentation on Bromeliad by Bryan Paten. This colourful and exotic looking plant takes on many forms, as Bryan explained to us that there are over 3000 different species. He brought in some for us to see, and instructed us on how, when and where to grow them. He also gave us some interesting, imaginative, and artistic ideas that the members were very keen to try. This was one of the last presentations that Bryan will be giving as he is retiring at the end of this year. Thank you so much Bryan for such an informative and enjoyable presentation - it is greatly appreciated. Your knowledge and expertise will be sadly missed!

The Betty Knox Award (Best Exhibit)

Well what can be said? - Ron has done it yet again this month! Ron Lewis has won the judges' vote for September with his exhibit of Tropaeolum "Tricolorum." As the name suggests, this majestic plant has three colours - yellow, red, and dark blue. Well done again Ron!

Popular Vote Award

And once again Ron has taken out both awards! The members were just as impressed with this plant as the judges were. Congratulations Ron!

North Blackburn Shopping Centre Promotion

This month we were offered a stall at the North Blackburn Shopping Centre to promote the Club. It was very successful. Much interest was shown and some new members have joined as a result. Welcome! A big thank you to all the members who helped man the stall.
