September Meeting

Tuesday 15th. September 2015

Topic - Clivias & More

Presenter - Bryan Paten

Our very interesting presentation this month concentrated on Clivias, a very popular plant among our members. The speaker was Bryan Paten, who gave us a very indepth talk on all things Clivia. They are a hardy plant that prefers to be dry rather than wet. They originate from South Africa and first arrived in Australia in the 1840's. The predominant Clivia colour is orange but they have been hybridised into various other colours including red and cream. In Asia the hybridisation has also produced dwarf varieties that can be used as indoor plants. Bryan gave us instruction on seed planting and also showed us a digital presentation of splendid photos. We thank you Bryan for a wonderfully informative and enjoyable talk.

The Betty Knox Award (Best Exhibit)

Our winner this month was Lyn Sutton. Lyn brought along a most beautiful specimen of the Peony Rose. It was a beautiful light pink with a deeper pink at its' centre, and lovely foliage all around. In a month of outstanding exhibits the Judges just couldn't go past this Peony!

Popular Vote Award

The members had a very difficult time choosing this month's winner as there was so much beauty on show, but they too decided that they couldn't fault Lyn's glorious Peony, and so Lyn took off both September awards! - Congratulations - well done Lyn!
