July Meeting
15th July 2014
Topic - Perennials
Presenter - James Wall
Proprietor of Garden World Nursery
Meetings like the one we had in July are very special. It was exceptionally good, one of our best. With a great attendance of members and visitors, our speaker laid us in the aisles. James not only imparted a lot of horticultural knowledge, his experiences, combined with his dry humour left us with a smile on our faces.
To have a professional nurseryman give us time away from his business is very much appreciated. We must regard ourselves very fortunate to have attended this meeting and heard such an informative presentation. James left us all very motivated to make the most of the upcoming Spring season. He brought along a wide variety of new plants to show us and he explained their characteristics and gave us many growing tips. We also enjoyed the plants he brought along for sale and the members went home with some great plants. Our thanks to James for a very informative and enjoyable morning.
The Betty Knox Award (Best Exhibit)
The show bench was full of excellent Camellia blooms, great Hellebores, Salvias, Orchids and late winter/early spring flowers. The judge took some time to select the monthly champion. The winning entry was three stunning yellow Daffodils staged by Helen Fearn-Wannan. A bright, faultless exhibit.
Popular Vote Award
The member's choice was an astounding bloom of "Bob Hope" - a deep red Camellia bloom. This is an excellent Camellia plant to grow as it produces many perfect blooms each season. Just beautiful. The exhibitor was Meng Yeap. Thank you Meng for sharing this bloom with us.
